Ohio Association of REALTORS® – Call to Action

The Ohio General Assembly is debating an important piece of legislation (House Bill 49) that will significantly help our industry by streamlining municipal income tax filings. This bill will affect our business so I’d like to encourage you to contact your legislators and ask them to support this proposal because of its importance to our industry and REALTORS across the state of Ohio.

Under the proposal, businesses would upload their municipal tax filing data to the Ohio Business Gateway and make just one payment and file a single return. This represents a tremendous opportunity to simplify the system and one we should endorse.

It is no secret that Ohio has a complicated, cumbersome system of municipal income tax collection. There are more than 600 taxing jurisdictions in this state and, because we must file based upon the property’s address, we are forced to file multiple returns.

Since our elected officials have heard from their cities expressing their opposition to centralized collection, it is now up to us as the real estate industry to show our support of this change.
